My Card Is Expired — How to Get a Replacement
Your funds don’t expire — only the physical or virtual card does. This guide walks you through how to get a replacement card so you can continue using your remaining balance.
Good news
The funds on your Visa or Mastercard gift card never expire. The expiration date you see refers to the physical or virtual card itself — not the money on it. You can request a replacement card and keep using your remaining balance.
Which kind of card do I have?
Replacement steps depend on the type of card you have. Use the table below to identify yours:
| Card type | Expiration | How to replace | Fee |
| Plastic Visa / Mastercard gift card | Physical card expires on MM/YY shown on the front | go to Refund and Card Replacement Request | $5 (deducted from balance) |
| Virtual / eGift Visa / Mastercard | Same MM/YY expiration model as plastic cards | go to Refund and Card Replacement Request | $5 (deducted from balance) |
| Merchant / store-specific gift card | Typically does not expire — see merchant terms | Use the merchant’s own support channel | Varies by merchant |
Plastic Visa / Mastercard — self-service replacement
If you have a plastic card and the balance is more than $5, you can request a replacement yourself in just a few steps:
Go to and submit your request: Refund and Card Replacement Request
Heads up
Once a replacement is issued, the original card is voided immediately for your security — so don’t try to use the old card after submitting the request. It is advisable to hold onto the original card until the new card arrives.

Who can request a replacement?
Typically, cards can be replaced for cardholders only. In some cases where a card was purchased by a corporate buyer the buyer of the card may need to request the replacement.

Replacement card delivery
Plastic replacement cards
- Plastic cards ship via USPS First Class Mail from our facility in Pittsburgh, PA, in a plain white envelope. Please check carefully so you don’t mistake it for junk mail.
- Delivery typically takes 5 business days, and in some cases up to 10 business days during busier periods.
- Orders submitted before 4:00 PM ET ship the same business day. Orders placed after 4:00 PM ET (or on weekends/holidays) ship the next business day.
- USPS First Class Mail does not include tracking. Once your card leaves our facility, we can’t provide live status updates.
Virtual replacement cards
- Virtual replacements are sent to the email address you confirm with our team — usually within the same business day after we receive the UID(s).
- Please check your inbox, spam, and junk folders. If you can’t find the replacement email, let us know and we can resend or update the delivery email.
Fees, balances, and limits
- The replacement fee is $5.00, deducted from your card’s remaining balance. It applies to both plastic and virtual replacements.
- Your card must have more than $5 remaining for a replacement to be issued. Cards with $5 or less are unfortunately below the cost of issuing a new card.
- Funds can’t be added to the replacement card — it carries only the remaining balance from your expired card.
- Replacement cards can’t be reloaded and aren’t eligible for further extensions once they themselves expire (the same replacement process applies).
Edge cases and common questions
My card’s expiration date hasn’t passed, but it’s declining as “expired.”
This can happen on the last day of the expiration month due to processing time-zone timing. Contact support with your UID — we can verify the status and issue a replacement if appropriate.
I had multiple cards expire — do I need a separate ticket for each?
No. You can include all UIDs in one message, and we’ll replace them together. Each card incurs its own $5 fee, deducted from that card’s balance.
Does this apply to merchant or store-specific gift cards?
No. Store-specific or merchant gift cards typically don’t expire, and are governed by that merchant’s terms. If you’re having trouble with one, please contact the merchant directly.
Still need help?
Our team is happy to help with your replacement. Please reach out with:
- Your card UID (8-character code) — or a photo of the back of a plastic card if you can’t find it
- The email address the card was originally sent to or purchased under
- Whether you want a plastic or virtual replacement
- For plastic: a U.S. mailing address (no P.O. Boxes)
By following these steps, you can easily request a replacement for your expired gift card and continue enjoying the funds that remain on your gift card.
