Using Your Gift Card at a Gas Station

When using your Visa or Mastercard gift card at a gas station, follow these guidelines to avoid pre-authorization charges:

1. Avoid Swiping at the Pump: Never swipe your card directly at the pump, as a pre-authorization charge of $75 to $200 may be applied.
2. Pay Inside at the Cashier: To avoid pre-authorization holds, request the cashier to authorize the card for a specific amount that is available on your card.
3. Pre-Authorization Charges: If you do swipe your card at the pump, a temporary hold will appear in your transaction history. This pre-authorization charge will adjust to the correct amount within 3-7 business days.
4. Virtual Cards: Virtual Visa or Mastercard gift cards cannot be used for fuel purchases at gas stations.

Helpful Tips:

• Declined Transactions: If your card is declined at the pump, it's likely due to insufficient funds or the pre-authorization charge exceeding your available balance.
• Pre-Authorization Holds: Funds held due to pre-authorization will be released within 4 days if unused.

For a smoother experience, always process your payment inside at the cashier with an exact purchase amount.
