Trouble Redeeming Your Gift Card? Start Here.
If you bought or received a digital or plastic gift card through Gift Card Granny and you’re running into problems redeeming it — missing email, declined at checkout, link doesn’t open, won’t add to your wallet, code rejected at the merchant — this guide walks you through what to do.
Quick check before you contact us
Most redemption issues clear up with one of these three steps: (1) search your inbox for notify@alerts.giftcardgranny.com and check your spam / Promotions tab; (2) sign in at www.giftcardgranny.com and look for the gift in your account; (3) remember the actual gift card code is shown on the last page of the redemption flow, not in the delivery email.
Where to find the actual gift card details
The first thing to know: the delivery email is a notification with a redemption link, not the card itself. Where you find the card number, PIN, and barcode depends on the kind of card you received.
| Card type | Where to find the details | How to redeem |
| Virtual Visa / Mastercard gift card (issued by Gift Card Granny) | On the last page of the redemption flow on giftcardgranny.com after you sign in — not in the email itself | Use the 16-digit card number, CVV, expiration date, and a valid U.S. billing address at online checkout. Not for in-store use. |
| Plastic Visa / Mastercard gift card | On the front and back of the physical card | Swipe at the register like a debit card; enter the PIN (the PIN is what you would have set up at the time of activation NOTthe code in the email) or press the green button to bypass. Online: 16-digit number, CVV, expiration, your own US based address and ZIP |
| Store-specific / merchant digital gift card (Amazon, Home Depot, Chewy, Chico’s, Little Caesars, etc.) | On the last page of the redemption flow — typically the card number / claim code, PIN, and a barcode or QR code | Add the code in the merchant’s gift card / promo field at checkout, or display the barcode at the register if the merchant accepts in-store. |
| Physical store-specific gift card mailed to you | On the front and back of the card | Treat it like any gift card you bought in a store. Activation is usually already complete on delivery. |
Heads up — the card code is shown at the end of the redemption flow
A common reason customers think their card is “missing” is that they look for the gift card number in the original email. For digital cards, the email only contains a redemption link. The actual code, PIN, and barcode only appear on the final page after you sign in and click Click here to view & claim your gift. Take a screenshot — you can come back to this page from your Gift Card Granny account at any time.
I never received the email — where is my gift card?
Gift cards usually arrive within 30 minutes of purchase — sometimes instantly. Some orders need a verification review and can take up to 1 business day. If it’s been longer than that, here’s what to do.
Step 1: Search your inbox the right way
- Search your inbox for notify@alerts.giftcardgranny.com — this is the sender address used for all gift card delivery emails.
- Check your Spam and Junk folders.
- In Gmail, also check the Promotions and Updates tabs. Many gift card emails get filtered there.
- Add notify@alerts.giftcardgranny.com to your contacts or safe-senders list so future emails skip the spam filter.
Step 2: Check your account on giftcardgranny.com
If you bought the gift card yourself, sign in at www.giftcardgranny.com using the email used at checkout. Your purchase will appear in your order history, where you can view, resend, or re-download the gift.
You can also look up an order without signing in at giftcardgranny.com/orderstatus using your order number and email.
Step 3: Request a resend
- Click the Chat Now icon at the bottom‑right of giftcardgranny.com and type “Resend my digital gift card”.
- Sign in or share your order number when the bot asks.
- Confirm the email address you’d like the gift card resent to. The chat agent will trigger the resend and you’ll receive a fresh email within a few minutes.
If you want the gift resent to a different email
For your protection, only the original purchaser can authorize sending the gift to a new email address. If you’re the recipient and need the delivery email changed, ask the person who bought the gift to contact Gift Card Granny support from their account.
Account email problems
“An account already exists with this email”
- Choose Sign In instead of Create Account and use your existing password.
- If you don’t remember the password, use Forgot Password on the sign-in screen. Check your spam folder if the reset email doesn’t arrive within a few minutes — in Gmail also check Promotions and any filtered tabs.
- If you originally signed up with Google (the “Sign in with Google” option), keep using that method — a separate email-and-password account won’t see your gifts.
Virtual Visa or Mastercard cards — usage and declines
Virtual Visa and Mastercard gift cards from Gift Card Granny are designed for online and over-the-phone purchases inside the United States only. They cannot be used in stores.
How to enter the card at online checkout
- Choose “credit card” as your payment method at checkout.
- Enter the 16-digit card number, expiration date, and CVV exactly as shown on the redemption page.
- Enter any name and a valid U.S. billing address — your own works fine. The card isn’t tied to a name, but the ZIP code must be valid.
- Make sure the purchase amount is at or below the remaining card balance, including any tax or shipping. If it exceeds the balance, the card declines.
Common reasons a virtual Visa or Mastercard is declined
- The purchase total exceeds the available balance (taxes, shipping, or tipping pre-auths push it over). Check your balance and ask the merchant to split the payment.
- The merchant ran a pre-authorization hold — common at gas pumps, restaurants, salons, and car rentals — that exceeds the card balance. Pay inside / pre-auth a lower amount where possible.
- The merchant doesn’t accept prepaid cards. Some online retailers, subscription services, and gambling sites block prepaid card BINs.
- The card was used to buy another gift card or load Venmo / PayPal / Cash App — these purchases are blocked.
- The billing address ZIP doesn’t match what you entered (AVS failure). Re-enter your real ZIP and try again.
- You tried to use the card internationally. Virtual Visa / Mastercard cards work in the U.S. only.
Balance, or expired card
My balance is lower than expected
- Check your balance at giftcardgranny.com/check-balance using the 16-digit card number on the redemption page.
- Some merchants place pre-authorization holds (especially gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and car rentals) that temporarily reduce the visible balance. Those holds typically release within 5–10 business days.
The card is expired
Visa and Mastercard funds never expire — only the card itself. If your physical or virtual card shows an expiration date that’s already passed, you can request a replacement card from Gift Card Granny:
- For a physical card, enter the 8-digit UID from the back of the card.
- For a digital card, enter the 8-digit Card ID shown on the redemption page.
- A $5 replacement fee is deducted from the card balance. Physical replacements ship to a U.S. mailing address (no P.O. boxes); digital replacements go back to the original delivery email.
My gift card isn’t recognized
Gift Card Granny sells gift cards from many merchants, plus our own branded Visa and Mastercard cards. We can only support cards that have the Gift Card Granny logo printed on the back. Check the card you have:
- If you see the Gift Card Granny logo on the back of the card, contact our support team and we’ll help.
- For store-specific merchant cards (Amazon, Home Depot, Starbucks, etc.), contact the merchant directly. See our Get support on your store-specific gift card article for direct support links.
